Reading the Bible can be easier than you think.

Every church and Christian organization will tell you the importance of reading your Bible daily. And of course, most of us understand the importance so that we can renew our minds.

And yet, it is one of the hardest things to make a regular habit to do every single day.

For one reason or another, it is hard because we have so many other things going on in life. Sometimes these other things are planned. And other times, they are things that aren’t planned at all, but they come up and we have to deal with them.

Nevertheless, creating life long, daily Bible reading habit is difficult.

And I think it is due to the way we think about reading our Bible first, and then how we prepare to read our Bible second.

When I have thought about creating my daily reading habit and talked with others about it there seems to be this reaction that happens. Either people get really excited about their time reading the Bible, or they push back a little to the idea of it.

These two reactions have led me to consider that people see the task of reading the Bible in two different lights.

When people are told to read their Bible daily, they think of it as this religious task they must complete. And if they don’t they feel shame or guilt that they aren’t as good as their Christian brothers or sisters who do this regularly.

This guilt and shame turn into discouragement and then Bible reading takes a back burner because it does not become a priority for their life. And then, people get a little defensive about the idea of reading their Bible daily.
