Who Killed Valentine Sally?

The unsolved murder of 17-year-old Carolyn Eaton.

Carolyn Eaton was a 17-year-old from Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri; a suburb of St. Louis. She was one of six sisters. After a family argument, she ran away from home during Christmas in 1981.

Carolyn eventually found her way to Arizona.

Patty Wilkins was a waitress working the night shift at the Monte Carlo Truck Stop her family owned in Ash Fork, Arizona. On February 2, 1982, she noticed a beautiful teenage girl come in with a truck driver in his 50’s. She thought it was odd the two were together given the late hour and the age difference.

Patty served the two and remembers Carolyn well. She thought she was sweet and frequently smiled. While she seemed very comfortable and relaxed with the truck driver Patty still wanted to make sure she was in a safe situation. Patty asked her if she needed help and let her know she could stay at the truck stop if needed. Carolyn declined her offer.

Despite her happy demeanor, Carolyn did complain of one problem. She said she had a toothache that had been bothering her. The truck driver also seemed quite concerned about her well-being. Patty didn’t want her to be in pain so she crushed up a baby aspirin for her and applied it to her bad tooth.

As the two left Patty watched Carolyn get into a big rig with the truck driver. They soon drove off into the night.

Twelve days later, on February 14, 1982, an Arizona State Trooper pulled over along Interstate 40 in Williams, Arizona. He had stopped to help a motorist search for a tire that had come off of the truck and needed to be found. The State Trooper was just one mile up the interstate from Patty’s truck stop.

On the northern side of the roadway, the State Trooper and motorist discovered the body of a teenage girl. It had appeared she had been dragged twenty-five feet from the roadway to underneath a tree. Her cause of death was listed as homicidal violence and it was…
