Hair loss

My personal experience with hair loss in Israel.

Many of you have probably never heard anything like this. But I’d love to share my story and the suffering I went through, when I was literally leaving a hair wig in the tub.

In 2018 I went to Israel to live the experience of being a volunteer, taking care of special children with disabilities. I arrived with a small suitcase and a heart full of joy and expectation.

My friend Andrea met me at the airport, following an hour and a half trip to a beautiful mountainous region called Ein Karem, outside Israel’s heart, Jerusalem. Everything was going great, until after three months I began to notice that my hair was falling in proportions that were not very desired.

My fear grew to the point of despair after speaking with a doctor and a nurse but not obtaining any helpful advice.

When I was telling Andrea about my condition, one of the volunteers from Colombia (Lucia) overheard my conversation and said, “It’s the water.” I asked her in a perplexed tone: “What?” She repeated: It’s the water that’s causing you to lose hair. A little skeptical, I asked her, “What about the water?” She resumed her argument without pause, “Honey, the water in the Middle East region has a significant percentage of salt and minerals.” That’s what’s causing your hair to fall out.

I was shocked with Lucia’s words. “So, what should I do?”, I asked her. She said, “Wash your hair with filtered water”. To which I replied, “How can I filter water?”. She pointed at the beautiful TAMI 4 water filter that was at the cafeteria and said, “Take it from there”. I’m not going to detail about these excellent filters, but it’s worth mentioning they not only feature a stone filter, but also a laser filter.

Not only did I stop losing hair after two weeks, but it also became thicker and shinier. Now that I live in the United States, I continue to use filtered water for my hair, since I observe how rusted the sink faucets are, which makes me question how much salt and minerals it contains here as well.
