My Blog Writing

I received an overwhelming amount of comments from other writers on Medium with all having an opinion to voice. For certain people the idea of publishing a daily piece seemed to be the only option to…

My 2018 YouTube Project

In 2018, my plan is to create a YouTube channel to share information about health and fitness (real original, right?).

I am calling this project Monday Mornings with Michael. The idea is to post every Monday morning about some sort of health and fitness topic. For the year, that will be 52 videos in total (whoa).

The health and fitness topic will vary every week, although each week might not apply to everyone. One week might be about shoulder pain with overhead lifting while the next week will be about ankle sprains.

The purpose of documenting this project in a blog form is to share what the journey is like to build the channel from nothing (well, technically I already have one follower on my channel with no videos).

I would consider myself an amateur YouTuber, although I do operate a small channel for the chiropractic clinic that I work at. I also have very little filming or editing experience, so I will be learning most of that on the fly.

So stay tuned on my journey into becoming a vlogger (I think that’s what I would be considered?).

Cheers to a new experience in 2018!

Update: We are 3 weeks into this project and it is going just as you would expect… slow.

Now, I didn’t expect the channel to explode onto the YouTube scene. In fact, I expected it would be a very slow process as I wanted to see how consistently posting could grow a following.

That’s not to say that I haven’t learned anything over the first few weeks.

Having had to listen to myself speak for several hours now, I have seen patterns in my speech that can be improved. Removing repeating phrases such as “so that” and “and because” will dramatically improve the flow of talking (not only for YouTube but in general).

There is also something to be said about holding yourself accountable, even though nobody is watching the YouTube videos. Every week I know I have to plan out, film, and edit a video to post on Monday mornings.

It is easy to let things slide when nobody is watching. But holding myself accountable to posting by Monday mornings has helped me realize I can do this for deadlines that matter.
