Why 2018 will be my biggest year yet

I decided that 2018 will be a huge inflection point for me. Ok, it might sound premature to make such a big statement, but this intention also challenges me to build on all the amazing things that happened to me in 2017.

Seneca’s saying that ‘luck is when preparation meets opportunity’ expresses how I feel about last year where I bought an apartment, started my own company and got married. Yes, some of those things were planned, but it all came together in a way I would have never expected. The love and happiness that 2017 brought is now my foundation for the upcoming years.

1/ DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION: I’m dedicated to changing the industry

2/ HAPPINESS: I’m dedicated to creating and sharing my happiness.

Having worked at large corporations like adidas and WPP with clients such as Ford/Lincoln and Chanel, I’ve learned a lot and am grateful for the global experience and network. Over the last couple of years however, I realized that bureaucracy was too often in the way of unlocking creativity coming from talented minds. Furthermore, the personal growth I got through my job in the corporate world wasn’t enough anymore to keep me excited. It might be an after effect from my 5+ years living and working in Shanghai, China where I helped setup creative agencies in Asia. There it was like “playing” to be an entrepreneur where every day was an adventure (and sometimes struggle), but at the same time it was immensely rewarding. Therefore, I’m planning to go back to this “choose your own adventure” attitude, determined to create a positive environment for my loved ones, people I work with and everyone I meet along the way.

3/ SOCIAL IMPACT: I’m dedicated to opening up opportunities for others

Almost every day I remind myself how “lucky” I am to live the life I am living. To explain this rather corny thought, I have to tell you a bit about my background. I was born in an orphanage in Bolivia where the fight against poverty and malnutrition determined each day. I was adopted by my German parents when I was only a couple weeks old and grew up in a small town in Germany. I then left to live and work in London, Madrid, Paris, Shanghai and now New York. It’s impossible for me to imagine how different my life would be if I didn’t have all those “helpers” along the way (spearheaded by my parents, but followed by so many others that have guided, challenged and inspired me). That’s why I want to give back and am determined to build a life and business that truly drives impact.

I understand that there’s some grand ambitions in these statements I’m making above. Therefore, I’d love to start conversations around all three points in order to hear different viewpoints, meet people that have similar goals and take action on it. The blog will be my journal and tool to keep me honest.

Life is incredible.
