Everybody needs a social media detox

It seems as if people are constantly looking down on their smartphones rather than being more attentive to what is around them these days. There is no doubt that we live in a world where social media is the source of focus whenever we have some free time in our hands. We would immediately unlock our phones to scroll through social media apps for minutes that can sometimes turn into hours. That doesn’t sound healthy at all.

Whether it is the latest scandal by a local politician or what Beyoncé is wearing, society feels the need to know and give double taps to almost everything. Is it really that necessary? If you think about it, it really is not because sometimes you just don’t know what to do with your hands during those times. Have people forgotten to live in the real world pre-social media already?

A lot of celebrities have taken social media breaks in the past including Kim Kardashian West, Kanye West, Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez, Leslie Jones, Rihanna, Emma Stone, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Adele, Ed Sheeran and more. The magnitude of negativity that they receive by the minute is more than you could imagine. If there is a reason for these millionaires to take a break from social media, then it should be a good time for you too.

Quitting cold turkey may not be easy for some, but it is good to know when to cut back on the social media usage. It is okay to still be on it, but do not let technology consume you. Use social media wisely because you have total control over it. It is a matter of whether you want to do it or not.

What can you do to minimize your time on social media?

Unfollow people you don’t need

It really is as simple as that. Rather than seeing the people that will just annoy you or simply make you a jealous person, use that unfollow button.

Turn off notifications

Nothing more distracting than notifications keep popping up on your phone screen. Turn it off and only check the app when you really have the time.

Resist the urge

We can’t help but to check out phones in bed before going to sleep. Refrain and set it aside. You will be surprised at how effective it would help you go to sleep instead of spending mindless time on the phone that passes your bedtime.

Benefits of minimizing the use of social media:

Spend some time to turn off the notications on your phone and unsubscribe to things that you know you don’t need anymore. Life is more than just Likes and OOTDs. The lesser the things you follow, the more enriching your life would be. Look up and appreciate the things around your surroundings today!
