Audio Slideshow Analysis

For my audio slideshow analysis, I went with a story that can and should inspire people. Robert Mendez, a high school football coach from Saratoga, CA, was born without arms and legs but never has let that affect him from being who he is. Mendez is a motivational speaker in addition to being a football coach and shares his story with the world. I believe it is Mendez’s attitude that immediately makes him stand out to people. He sees himself as no different form anyone else and makes no excuse for himself.

The video i chose features many pictures showing Mendez involved on the football field with his voice over the pictures. You can tell based on the video, that the kids listen and respect what he is saying. Mendez describes how people treat and view him. Even in positive moments he just wants to viewed like everyone else. The video did a nice job of getting lots of “action” photos or photos that shows Mendez giving direction and actively involved with what is going on with the football game or practice.

I think the biggest thing this video was missing was background music. Just hearing Mendez’s voice can come off as a little dull and a missed opportunity to bring more light to such a great story. I dont think there is a need for any sound effects other than Mendez voice and maybe some music. Some pictures of him in his home life would have made for some great shots as well. I did enjoy the photos of Mendez out in the world moving around.

After viewing this slideshow, it really shows how much pictures followed by a simple story can truly inspire someone and engage with an audience. I hope to hear more about Coach Mendez and his mission to inspire people. I will definitely be looking out for more audio slideshows with these type of messages.
