Donors are Struggling to Donate to Charity

In these times of uncertainty, charities are struggling to understand what the future will bring in terms of donations and services. The combination of a global pandemic causing an economic collapse coupled with social unrest has created the perfect storm that will affect donations and how charities and nonprofits move forward in the “new normal.” Most charities don’t know what to expect and nonprofit leaders describe how they’re feeling these days as, “incredibly stressed.”

Currently, nonprofit leaders are examining the state of things and reading a clear message from society, “please don’t ask for donations right now.” But while charities and nonprofits forge their way forward, they’re examining the landscape to understand how fundraising and particularly financial donations will be affected by these times of unrest and uncertainty. One thing is evident, charities and nonprofits will face new obstacles that will change the way people donate in the future.

While nonprofits and charities are working to figure out their future, the general public faces unprecedented unemployment rates and economic hardship. While people try to get up and dust themselves off after the “lockdown,” they face questions as to whether they’ll be able to donate to their favorite charity and/or contribute to the recovery efforts. Will people who usually donate continue to give money to charity?
